Chapel History  

  

Built in the years immediately following the Civil War, 1866-1868, The Olde North Chapel was originally United Presbyterian Church. 


 Built in 1866-1868 as a United Presbyterian Church, The Olde North Chapel was constructed from the finest materials and craftsmanship of the day.  Located in the Elizabeth Starr Historical District, it is one of the oldest existing structures of it's kind in Richmond.  This was the home church of young Daniel Reid prior to the construction of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church in 1906, at which time the congregation moved and sold the building to the United Brethern Church.  Daniel G. Reid became a successful businessman in New York  Known as the "Tin Man", he remembered is hometown of Richmond, IN and invested nearly $100,000 in the construction of a new church building.  He hired the finest archetects and included several Tiffany windows.   One particular window is dedicated to William S Reid, who was in charge of the financing and construction of this original building located at Norht 11th and "B"Streets.   Daniel also invested $100,000 to the construction of the "new" hospital in Richmond, now know as Reid Memorial Hospital.  The owner of the chapel now resides in the home built by William S. Reid and often frequented by young Daniel G. Reid.

Located on the National Register of Historic Places'is the Elizabeth Starr Historic District, Richmond, Indiana.  The Olde North Wedding Chapel was constructed  during the years 1866-1868.  This is coincides exactly with the drafting of the 14th amendment.

The Olde North Chapel has been operated as a Vintage Wedding Chapel for the previous 25 years.  Visitors are still amazed by the ambience and beauty of this building that has been so well maintained.  The original stained glass windows,  organ pipes, hand carved pews, barrel ceiling, baby grand piano, balcony and Austrian chrystal chandeliers all add to the ambience of the chapel.  We have added a chapel flower and tree decorating package and your choice of the Traditional Brass arch, candelabras and pew candles OR our New Black Garden Arch, Lamps and our Exclusive Pew Lanterns.These are included in the complete wedding package.  A wedding planner works closely with the chapel to provide other personal touches at a special rate.  We also have an elegant Banquet Room furnished with tables and chairs.  A full service kitchen is available for your convenience.
